Asbestos has been linked to various cancers and other debilitating respiratory diseases. Despite controls in the manufacturing, processing, and distribution of building materials, some products containing asbestos are still in circulation and can be found throughout existing structures today. With the rise in health concerns from exposure to asbestos, the Environmental Protection Agency (a federal agency also known as the EPA) has instituted processes and checks to ensure careful handling and monitoring of asbestos-containing materials. As a result, an asbestos inspection is required on every demolition project, with proper asbestos abatement prior to the beginning of any demolition project should asbestos be found to be present.

Lead-based paint in building materials is another focus of the EPD (Environmental Protection Division, a division of Georgia Department of Natural Resources). Environment and health concerns with lead-based paint in the building industry have lead the EPD to regulations involving renovation and/or demolition of residential and commercial structures. All public and/or commercial structures must be tested for lead-based paint prior to any disturbance of the structure. Jim Sims Contracting will provide for the testing for lead-based paint, submit the necessary notifications to the EPD, and perform abatement of all lead-based paint from the structure prior to demolition.
Jim Sims Contracting provides for environmentally safe removal of asbestos and lead-based paint prior to performing a demolition, thus keeping in compliance with the regulations regarding handling of hazardous materials as specified by the EPD.
